Rising Sun Theater: A rock video in the making

Dwayne Lawler wanted to be a rock musician when he was a young wastrel back in Australia. It was the 1980s, and MTV had just started filling the small screen with everything from Pop to Heavy Metal.
Essay
Outside looking in

Before I ventured overseas four years ago, I had certain preconceptions about Japan, and the Japanese people. The first was that it is a hi-tech, industrialised country.
Essay
Dazed and uninspired

Notes to an erratic self:
"I glance wistfully at the red orb rising from beneath the now somewhat threadbare snowcapped mountains."

Opinion
Growing nationalism in Japan?

Food corner
The perils of Japanese pizza delivery

I glance at the clock: 8:00 p.m. Still no sign of the pizza I ordered at 6:00 p.m. No advisory e-mail either. Starving and cranky, I scan the company website one more time for troubleshooting options.
